mercy

Refugees from the civil war in the African country of Togo lived in my house for a time. They had already spent years waiting in a refugee camp in Benin, and finally World Relief was able to resettle them in our town. We hosted the family of 5 until an apartment was found for them. How can I look at the issue of refugees seeking safety in any other way than to have mercy?

Micah 6:8 "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord God require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."

The good news is that this family has settled into American life with joy. They are working, contributing to our economy, making their lives better and are grateful. When we told them that their little boy gets to go to school and it is free they were unbelieving and then so happy.

happy new year

Happy Chinese New Year. And this is the Year of the Rooster.

I made this piece of art a few years ago when I illustrated for an advertising agency. Our big clients were banks and I illustrated lots of black and white newspaper ads. This one was titled"Protect Your Nest Egg".

like a brand new blank sketchbook

The first day of the New Year is shining like the first page of a brand new sketchbook.
Here I am drawing my 3 year old granddaughter
during the family gathering on New Year's Eve.
How will you fill it?
