summer is almost over

Sad, but yes, true. I have enjoyed this summer perhaps more than any in my life so far. And that is a good thing to reflect about. This painting, 30'by40' acrylic on canvas, framed is for sale.

Tuesday March 15

Some acrylics, some watercolor technique, some colored pencils, and some oil pastel.  And a lot of just playing around with it all.

still painting sunflowers

And really enjoying it. Someone said to me, "Aren't you worried that you will only be known for the sunflowers?" Well, for the big show at the Merchandise Mart in December, I will be happy if someone remembers me for anything.
I think that they are very eye-catching. And I have put all my personal joy and hope into them, so I feel good about showing these.

the artist's dog

My faithful studio companion got too close to my palette and stuck his head into a pool of cadmium red light.
It doesn't show up much in this photo, but it looks like he has a bleeding ear.
Could this be his halloween costume this year?
He is posing for us in front of one of my sunflower paintings in progress.

Yellow to ease the gloom and the doom

All I read in the newspaper and all I hear on the radio is bad news. The economy is going down and everything is turning from bad to worse all over. Sometimes you have to just turn it off.
This is an experimental painting on heavy watercolor paper 29"x23". I used acrylics, pencil, and oil pastel sticks and just played around. Does it look playful?
Here's a detail of the mixed media sunflower.
