painting a day number 11

Painting a day challenge number 11. I'm starting to feel a little discouraged. The painting from yesterday did not work out the way I had hoped. In fact I am sure I will throw it away, The colors and subject matter did not come together and I felt like I was struggling my way through it. It didn't help that for the past two days we have had workmen in our house repairing the ceiling on the lower level and replacing a toilet which began to leak. Difficult to concentrate.

Today's painting is a large shell that I brought back from one of my trips to the Philippines. I grew up in the Philippines and am a tropical person in my heart. The collection of shells that I have is very sentimental to me. Some I bought from shops there, the Philippine seas are famous for the rare seashells found on the beaches. And some are ones I found while wandering those beautiful beaches.

I have arranged my shell on a very light teal blue background. And to change things a bit I have switched my light source for the still life from the left side to the right.
